Responsibilities

  • Manages surrounding biological resources coordinating with wildlife and botany management programs with other natural resources.Assists in collection of scientific data in order to evaluate implemented management practices and procedures.Provides input and participates in developing and revising land use plans, restoration implementation plans and resource management plansParticipates in interdisciplinary teams to work on completion of planning activities for Resource Management Plan and other activity plans.Assists in the development annual work plans and monitors progress for the various biological programs.

Qualifications

  • GS-07: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: evaluating and conducting analysis of biological resources for proposed projects, processing permits to ensure compliance with federal laws, implementing biological resource improvement and restoration projects, identifying impacts to wildlife and botany habitat and writing and reviewing environmental and biological assessments.

  • Education: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement-

  • Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
  • GS-09: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: assisting in preparing approaches to the endangered species program, developing preventative techniques that enhances species habitat, assisting in the analysis of scientific data to evaluate management practices, developing and revising land use plans, restoration implementation plans and resources management plans, ensuring ecological sustainability of all the public lands with focus on wildlife and botany.

  • Education: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree-

  • Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education.   • Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.   • Physical Demands: The individual works in an office setting at this level. However, field based activities will frequently require the individual to walk or ride vehicles over rough terrain, perform duties that require recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching or lifting. Work may also include lifting moderately heavy items such as equipment and samples.

  • Work Environment: Much of the work is performed in an office setting. However, frequent field work is necessary to complete the work, involving outdoor exposure. Outdoor exposure involves some discomfort in extremes of temperature or inclement weather. The incumbent may be subjected to hostile wildlife, hostile people, chemical and physical hazards.


Education

  • This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience---courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

  • Basic Education Requirements: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study, from an accredited college or university, leading to a bachelors or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position -OR- A combination of education and experience - at least 24 semester hours equivalent to a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines relative to the position, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education.
  • You must submit copies of all transcripts or a list of college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. If your degree is from a Foreign Institution See Foreign Education.
