Agronomy Research Intern

The J.R. Simplot Company’s Plant Sciences division provides an exciting opportunity to change the nature of potato breeding and enhance sustainable food production using tools of biotechnology. As a small group within a large Agribusiness company we seek fun, innovative, and hard-working individuals to help bring new products to market. We are currently looking for a full-time, seasonal Agronomy Research Intern to join our Boise, Idaho Team. This individual will support the Agronomic Sciences Team’s efforts by working closely with our Agronomists and other internal groups.

What we need:
You will assist the Agronomic Sciences Field Team in all aspects of field trialing and data input. In this role, you will assist with field data collection needed for different projects and other field activities throughout the year. You will also assist in uploading data into a new database from current and historical field and storage trials. You will be responsible for managing team efforts for compliance documentation related to transport, storage, planting, harvest, and post-harvest management of biotech potato crops. Cross-functional team collaboration, leadership, concise written and oral communication, organization and attention to detail are required. This role includes an opportunity for independent study and presentation of results. This position is a full-time 6 month internship, starting in April to May 2021 and ending in October to November 2021.

What you will do:
  • Assist with planting, harvest, crop sampling and field observations
  • Data collection and entry
  • Special projects as assigned
  • Assist in managing field plots
  • Support the Biotechnology Quality Management System (BQMS) documentation and monitoring
  • Assist in potato storage assessments
What you already have:
  • Bachelor’s degree (in-progress or completed) in: Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Biology, or other relevant majors
  • Preference for experience in crop production, farming, horticulture or similar
  • Knowledge of potato cultivation, plant biology, other farming practices or biotechnology is also preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written communications and interpersonal skills are essential
  • The individual must be available to travel domestically approximately 10%.
  • Valid driver’s license
