The Role
BGC is seeking junior geotechnical/geological engineers and geoscientists with a passion for applied earth sciences and a dedication to lifelong learning in a technically challenging and inspiring team environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background, relevant work experience and a desire to travel and work in diverse and remote conditions.
BGC provides an opportunity to develop an exciting career that builds on your fundamental skills gained during university. Junior engineers and geoscientists at BGC can expect a mix of field and office work supporting a variety of sectors including mining, pipelines, transportation and infrastructure. Typical field work in all sectors includes both site investigations (including drilling and downhole testing, testing pitting, field mapping, instrumentation installation and geohazard assessment) and construction monitoring. Typical office work includes reporting and interpretation of field data, engineering or geoscience analysis including material and site characterization, interpretation of instrumentation data, and contribution to designs.
Required Education, Experience and Competencies
- MS Office skills
- Enrolled in, or a recent graduate, of a relevant undergraduate degree in Civil (Geotechnical) or Geological Engineering, Geoscience, Geology, or a related field
- 0-5 years of experience
- Excellent written, presentation and oral communications
- A second language is an asset
- Post-Graduate Degree is an asset

Bona fide Occupational Requirements
Drug and Alcohol Testing
BGC has a drug and alcohol policy to ensure compliance to our client needs and to ensure the health and safety of everyone. When working in the field, BGC staff are required to comply with clients’ drug and alcohol policies. You may be required to take a drug and alcohol test prior to field work, this could be requested within your first week and at subsequent times as requested. It is important to note that some clients require random drug and alcohol testing, along with testing in the event of a health and safety accident or incident on site.
Driver's License
BGC requires that you have a valid BC Class 5 or equivalent unrestricted driver’s license and that you are able to drive a field pickup truck on unmaintained roads. BGC requires you to submit a driver’s abstract to allow for a safety review of your driving history upon hiring.
Passport
A valid passport is desirable. You must be willing and able to undertake fieldwork, sometimes for weeks in duration at remote and rugged sites, both domestically and internationally. Please note you must be able to work in Canada and/or the United States and we will assist you in obtaining visas as necessary.
