The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Quality has an opening for a Water Resource Control Engineer in the Groundwater Branch. The position is located at: 1001 I Street, 15 Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Experience with leading projects independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with preparing and reviewing technical reports and waste discharge permits.
  • Experience with domestic and/or industrial wastewater treatment and associated groundwater quality impacts.
  • Possession of a California Engineer-in-Training certificate or professional registration in the State of California (PE) as a civil engineer.
  • Experience with civil engineering principles such as construction cost estimation, soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, slope stability, or site improvement.
  • Experience with personal computer and software applications such as Microsoft applications. Familiarity and experience with state databases such as GeoTracker, geographic information systems, and related computer applications. 
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication with the ability to conduct effective presentations to varying audiences and facilitate internal and external meetings.
  • Familiarity with State and federal laws and regulations related to discharge of waste to land including the California Environmental Quality Act.
  • Ability to effectively interact with stakeholders in a positive manner, including dischargers, State and local agency representatives, members of the public.
  • Ability to travel to meetings by vehicle or plane.
