ACE: USFWS DFP Using ArcGIS Pro to examine landscape factors for pondberry restoration, AR (Graduate Student) (DFP-LR4-14)
Summary: The Directorate Fellows Program (DFP) is a Direct Hire Authority Program that includes an 11-week Fellowship project for current students at the rising senior undergraduate or graduate school level. Upon successful completion of the Fellowship program, along with degree conferral, participants may be directly appointed without competition to full time, permanent positions.

Location: Wapanocca National Wildlife Refuge, Turrell, AR
Housing: Remote project
Project Description: Use a variety of geospatial surfaces to extract information where endangered pondberry (Lindera melissifolia) may currently be located or could potentially be restored on Wapanocca and Cache River NWRs. Data used to determine locations will include microclimate, microtopography, soil characteristics, land use land cover (LU/LC) associations. This will assist in finding areas with ideal conditions for locating or restoring pondberry and assist with targeting future land acquisitions.
Minimum education: Graduate student who has completed at least their first year or more of graduate school (Masters or PhD), but will not complete their degree requirements before Sept. 2021, pursuing a degree in biological sciences, geographic and information sciences, or other closely related field.
Work conditions/Requirements: Remote work.
Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of endangered species and pondberry (Lindera melissifolia); proficiency in ARC GIS Pro with at least 6 credits of GIS-intensive coursework.
