Mechanical Engineering Internship

JOB SUMMARY: Located in our Spokane, WA facility, the Mechanical Engineering Intern will be primarily responsible for assisting with the design and fabrication of assembly, test, and automation equipment for production lines. This includes basic design work in 3D CAD, hands on fabrication of parts, assembly, and qualification of equipment produced.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)
  • Design of production fixtures to support manufacturing and test engineering.
  • Perform routine calculations, specify equipment, and solve engineering problems.
  • Purchase components, equipment, and tooling required to fabricate production fixtures.
  • Fabricate parts using shop equipment such as mill, lathe, 3D printer, bandsaw, CNC router, and other basic shop tools.
  • Assemble fixtures per design and troubleshoot issues that come up.
  • Validate assembled fixtures perform to intended design specifications.
  • Create documentation for fixture designs in the form of 2D drawings.
OTHER FUNCTIONS 
  • Attend meetings as needed to support organizational activity.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, to achieve corporate and departmental objectives.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, talk, hear, and see. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or reach with hands and arms. The environment is fast-paced; time pressured, and requires accuracy. The employee will regularly multi-task between projects, be required to move throughout the building, and effectively communicate. The normal environment is typical of a shop or lab and may be louder at times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or similar. An appropriate combination of education and experience may be considered in the absence of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to operate and have knowledge in using shop equipment.
  • Ability to use gerber file readers, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and demonstrate the ability to determine critical parameters. 
  • Proficient technical writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people, handle sensitive and confidential situations and materials. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
