The Department of Transportation-Division of Planning and Engineering is looking for a motivated and skilled individual to fill an Accountant position in Pierre, SD. This position is part of the Accounting/Auditing career family. The opportunity for career growth exists in this position. This position would work with the Office of Project Development. This position would prepare federal project authorizations, reconcile federal funds, complete project reviews, complete federal finals, complete various account reconciliations, prepare financial reports, and contribute to the development, drafting, and implementation of grant agreement term sheets and various internal accounting control policies and processes, draft and coordinate agreements for State Highway construction projects, coordinate development and updates to the Statewide Planning and Research (SPR) Work Program and may assist with various other department accounting responsibilities.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: 
A bachelor’s degree in accounting or related business degree with major coursework in accounting or finance is preferred.
Knowledge of: 
  • governmental fund accounting;
  • generally accepted accounting principles(GAAP) standards and generally accepted accounting standards board (GASB) statements;
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Query and other desktop tools;
  • FHWA policies and procedures (preferred but not required);
  • federal funding agreements (preferred but not required).
