Diversion Program Coordinator

GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Minnehaha County State's Attorney's Office invites applications for a Diversion Program Coordinator to join our team of professionals. We are looking for someone to assess program participant needs and develop an individualized diversion plan. The Diversion Program Coordinator may work with adult offenders who have been arrested with the goals of keeping program participants out of the court system and reducing recidivism. This position refers the program participants to the appropriate agencies and/or programs and manages diversion plans by following through with the referrals to determine whether clients have met programming goals or need to have their case reverted back for potential charges.

 SALARY: $23.03 - $24.80 Hourly

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES INCLUDE:
· Coordinate with law enforcement officers and the Minnehaha County State's Attorney's Office to accept referrals for clients with minor or qualifying offenses to participate in community-based, court diversion programs.
· Conduct an initial needs assessment with the clients and youth family members. Complete intake and assessment forms necessary to maintain accurate case documentation and statistics. Review the client’s previous offenses and records. Evaluate findings and determine goals and objectives of a diversion plan.
· Determine individualized programming parameters appropriate for each client. Develop an individualized, comprehensive diversion plan based on the type of offense committed and the needs of the client.
· Refer clients to the appropriate services which may include a combination of counseling, chemical dependency assessments and/or treatments, community service, functional family therapy, teen court, or other relevant community programs and classes. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with outside agencies and individuals that serve the needs of the client.
· Coordinate and manage a caseload and monitor each client's diversion plan's goals and outcomes. Maintain regular contact with clients engaged in a diversion plan to assist them in meeting deadlines and objectives of program criteria. Conduct follow up with outside agencies to verify the client’s compliance with program conditions. Determine when the diversion program is ineffective and refer the case back to the prosecutor for potential charges.
· Complete thorough data tracking throughout the lifecycle of each client's diversion plan to ensure accurate documentation and recordkeeping. Provide oversight of each individual’s program or contract parameters to track completion.  Identify program gaps and troubleshoot barriers to program effectiveness. 
· Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders in order to utilize programming standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social science, social work or a closely related field plus two years of project management, program development, management, or other directly relevant work experience or an Associate's Degree in a closely related field and four years of directly relevant work experience. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process. Knowledge of the criminal justice system and diversion programs. Knowledge of relevant community resources. Knowledge of case management and substance use disorders. Awareness of and ability to work effectively with diverse individuals of varied ages, races, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to collaborate with multi-agency partners. If working with juvenile diversion, knowledge of the juvenile criminal justice system and youth brain development. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, vendors, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social science, or a closely related field. Experience working in a legal environment.
