Senior Engineering Geologist (Geologist)

The California Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board’s, Rancho Cordova Office, has an opening for a Senior Engineering Geologist (Specialist) overseeing Investigation and Remediation activities at the Former McClellan Air Force Base and McClellan Business Park. The position is located at 11020 Sun Center Drive, Suite 200, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.

Minimum Qualifications: All Levels:

Education: Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in geology, engineering geology, or a closely related field that includes coursework in geology. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) (Registration as a senior in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the Engineering Geologist examination, but they must produce evidence of graduation or its equivalent before they can be considered eligible for appointment.)

Senior Engineering Geologist and Above

Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a geologist or geophysicist issued by the California Board of Geologists and Geophysicists is required for appointment to the Senior Engineering Geologist level and above.


Senior Engineering Geologist

The Senior Engineering Geologist Supervisor is either (1) a first-line unit supervisor; or (2) a nonsupervisory staff specialist assigned to perform the most complex and technical engineering geologic assignments. The senior level is the first level to which administrative responsibility is assigned.

Pay and Benefits:
The Senior Engineering Geologist classification's standard pay range is $9,766.00 to $12,223.00. Benefits packages for State employees include health, dental, vision, retirement, and much more!  

NOTE: Effective July 1, 2020, State employees are subject to a 9.23% salary reduction in exchange for up to 16 hours of the Personal Leave Program 2020 (PLP 2020) per month. 

Duties:

The Senior Engineering Geologist (Specialist) acts as the Central Valley Water Board’s Remedial Project Manager at the Former McClellan Air Force Base and the McClellan Business Park cleanup sites. As the Remedial Project Manager, the selected candidate will work on projects involving complex engineering, geological, chemical and biological/toxicological assignments and requires significant expertise in groundwater and vadose zone modeling. These projects also involve complex legal and technical issues requiring considerable finesse and experienced judgment. In addition, the selected candidate will be responsible for a considerable amount of administrative responsibility with respect to contracting, budgeting, data management, and interagency coordination.
The Senior Engineering Geologist will work closely with the Site Cleanup Regional Board program manager, Executive Management, and legal staff to interpret Federal and State regulations and policies, and Basin Plan objectives for implementation in permits and certifications. The selected applicant will use project management tools to maintain project milestone schedules, coordinating work tasks with federal, State, and local agencies, and other stakeholders for the Former McClellan Air Force Base and McClellan Business Park. The Senior Engineering Geologist will also play a key role in providing technical consultation on Site Cleanup issues, mentor existing staff, and represent the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Board in public hearings and meetings.
