Position Title: Intern - Wildlife Research- Black Hills Bobcat

Intern will conduct wildlife research and assist Game, Fish, and Parks staff in collecting radiotelemetry data for monitoring bobcats. This student will track survival and also determine cause-specific mortality of bobcats. Student will conduct trapping and radiomarking of bobcats. Maintenance of traps, equipment, data entry, and office assistance will also be required. Intern may be working long and variable hours in adverse conditions. Applicant must be in good physical condition, possess valid driver’s license, and be able to use trucks and ATVs under off-road conditions. Work vehicle and equipment provided.

 

Applicant must be a full-time student at a college, university or technical institute at the time they apply. By the start of the internship, the applicant should have at least a sophomore standing or currently be enrolled at a technical institute and have completed one year (nine months). 

 

Preference will be given to applicants with a junior standing, South Dakota residents and students of South Dakota institutions.

 

In addition, coursework in human dimensions training, wildlife management and techniques, and mammalogy is desired. Experience with radio-telemetry equipment will be desirable. Applicant must be in good physical condition, possess valid driver’s license, and be able to use trucks and ATVs under off-road conditions. Work vehicle and equipment provided.

 

Minimum Salary: $13.80
