Management and Program Analyst Fall/Winter Intern (GS-04)

Interns will work on various assignments within one of GAO's Administrative Professional and Support Staff (APSS) offices:

Chief Administrative Office, Insider Threat: Intern will learn how to conduct risk assessments in order to triage potential insider threats. Intern will assist the GAO Insider Threat Program in identifying agency-wide vulnerabilities that could be exploited by insider threats, and developing mitigation strategies.

Chief Administrative Office, Telework Special Assistant: Intern will support and work alongside GAO’s Telework Special Assistant and business partners to perform a full-range of analytical, technical and administrative work assignments in support of GAO’s telework oversight, implementation and change management initiatives.

Comptroller General (CG) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Office: Intern will work with the program manager on projects related to diversity, equity, and inclusion and employee engagement to include researching trends and leading practices.

Continuous Process Improvement (CPI):  Interns will assist with process improvement and change management projects and use Agile project management to implement agency-wide improvements, gather requirements for information technology systems, and/or analyze and visualize performance data

Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB): Duties will include reviewing and analyzing federal financial reports, providing assistance updating the FASAB Handbook, and/or supporting the development of implementation guidance. Data gathering and analysis using automation tools is a plus.

Financial Management and Business Operations (FMBO): Responsible for maintaining, organizing, interpreting, and reviewing accounting and budget documents and data for record management purposes; analyzing and reviewing data to ensure consistency; conducting analysis of GAO/FMBO’s best practices.

Human Capital Office (HCO): Perform a full-range of analytical and technical work assignments to support GAO’s human resources functions such as researching human capital trends and leading practices, processing personnel and payroll actions, developing recruitment strategies and communications materials.

Information Management and Technology Services (ISTS), Publishing and Dissemination Group (PDG): Various publishing support activities including operations, quality assurance, print procurement, publishing technical support, and accessibility. Knowledge of publishing, Adobe, and MS Office.

Information Management and Technology Services (ISTS), Operational Readiness Group (ORG):  Assist with inputting User Guides and IT Notices for GAO personnel to access in the Self Service portal of the Service Now Knowledge Management Data Base.

Information Management and Technology Services (ISTS), Budget, Acquisition, and Contracts Group (BACG): Assist in performing budget and procurement formulation and administration duties using Financial and MS office systems.

Infrastructure Operations (IO): Perform analytical studies focused on evaluating the effectiveness of various business operations, processes, and programs in the subject areas of facility management, security and emergency management, and records management.

Learning Center (LC): Provide course development assistance to the agency’s learning & talent development unit, including instructional systems design (ISD) and other methods. This includes the analysis, development and implementation of classroom, webinar, and eLearning courseware.

Office of the General Counsel (OGC) Assist management with a variety of administrative support functions, including supporting attorneys on projects by researching and retrieving GAO and OGC records and documents; assist paralegals with maintaining data systems; and work on scheduling and correspondence.

Office of Inspector General (OIG) - The intern will report to the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations and will work closely with federal agents on the development of investigations, including assisting in interviews and analysis of documentary and email evidence. 

Public Affairs (PA): Help with maintaining and improving external communications on digital and social platforms and help with media relations.

Strategic Planning and External Liaison (SPEL): Intern will help develop tools and methods to advance strategic planning and strategic foresight programs, promote dialogue within the accountability community, improve event coordination and planning tools, and support the Managing Director’s long-term agenda.

Qualifications


All qualification requirements must be met by the start of the internship.

To qualify for the GS-4 level, you must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree seeking program, and meet one of the following criteria:

1. You must have completed 60 semester hours or 90 quarter credits of Bachelor's level education; or

2. You must possess an Associate's degree.

If at any point during the internship (and for any reason) your status as a student changes to that of a non-student, your internship will be terminated.
