Forest Inventory/GIS Analyst


About the Position

The Forest Inventory/GIS Analyst will support MB&Gs efforts to manage inventory data, conduct inventory and biometrics analysis, conduct spatial analysis related to inventory data collection, conduct periodic spatial analysis/updates, conduct growth and yield modeling, and perform other tasks related to forest inventory and planning efforts.

The Forest Inventory/GIS Analyst will perform the following tasks:
·        Assists and leads compiling, editing and summarizing inventory and associated GIS data.
·        Assists and leads periodic updates of tabular and spatial forest inventory data.
·        Assists in the design of timber cruises to meet information needs and satisfy time and cost constraints.
·        Assists and leads generation of growth and yield projections.
·        Leads the preparation of reports summarizing and comparing results.
·        Leads the construction, maintenance, analysis, modeling, and visualization of GIS databases.
·        Leads the preparation and edits on geospatial maps and graphic products.
·        Supports MB&G’s efforts to develop new clients and to expand services to existing clients.
·        Assists in project proposal development.
·        Manages time to meet objectives of multiple concurrent projects.
·        Lead/manage small projects.
·        Operates independently under minimal supervision.
·        Functions as Project Manager on simple to moderately difficult projects, with budgets $5,000 - $100,000.
·        May function as Assistant Project Manager on complex projects, with budgets $100,000 - $250,000.
·        Job may be supervisory as needed to accomplish project-related tasks.
·        Assists with development of client relationships, participate in business development functions.
·        Actively promotes MB&G as a premier provider of natural resource consulting services.
·        Provides analytical support to other MB&G projects as assigned. This work often takes the form of data analysis, statistical analysis, and economic analysis.

About You

In order to excel at the Forest Inventory/GIS Analyst position, you should possess the following skills, experience, and background:
·        BS in forestry, forest management or similar natural resource related field.
·        MS in forest biometrics, forest management or similar natural resource related field preferred.
·        Knowledge of SQL, R, Python preferred.
·        Knowledge of Remsoft Woodstock software is a plus, but not required.
·        2-8 years’ experience as a forester or forest/GIS analyst.
·        Combination of education and experience.
·        Intermediate technical report writing and editing skills.
·        Advanced skills in MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
·        Intermediate to advanced analytical and programming skills.
·        Intermediate understanding of statistical methods/procedures, such as regression analysis and inventory design.
·        Intermediate to advanced knowledge of ESRI products.
·        Intermediate to advanced knowledge of GIS analysis modeling and database skills.
·        Understanding and practice of spatial concepts and mapping techniques.
·        Excellent written and oral communication skills.
·        Proven ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
·        Strong attention to detail.
·        Excellent time management skills.
·        Responsive and client service oriented.
