The Inyo National Forest is looking to fill 2 Full-Time Permanent Positions for a District Range Management Specialist GS-0454-9/11 on the Mt. Whitney Ranger District – Lone Pine, CA or White Mountain Ranger District – Bishop, CA AND Mammoth Ranger District – Mammoth Lakes, CA or Mono Lake Ranger District – Lee Vining, CA
Major Duties:
- Responsible for managing, planning, scheduling, coordinating, reviewing, and reporting on an ecosystem-based rangeland management program for the Southern Zone or Northern Zone of the Inyo National Forest.
- Develops an overall ecosystem-based rangeland management program
- Prepares long and short-range plans based on rangeland resource needs and public demands for rangeland resource uses.
- Serves as principal contact and negotiator for the District on rangeland resources and activities.
- Conducts inventories and monitoring of rangeland resources and activities to document the degree of impacts occurring, plant community changes, and trend of ecological status or diversity to determine the effectiveness of ongoing management actions and possible alternatives or planned management practices or changes.
- Assists with planning the overall unit program by providing input to all program areas and devising and recommending means of integrating multiple-use activities and uses in the management of the unit.
- Serves on interdisciplinary teams, evaluating rangeland resource and ecosystem impacts, identified alternatives, and trade-offs or results of various rangeland project proposals.
- Inspects grazing allotments for compliance with livestock grazing strategies and management practices that are part of the grazing permit.
- Completes necessary rangeland use permit modifications, and ensures compliance by permittees/rangeland users.
- Plans and implements rangeland improvement projects.
