Data Analytics Intern

Career Services is seeking an UofI student interested in data analytics and statistics for a new internship that will help the University of Idaho help tell the story of where our graduates find jobs and pursue careers after graduation.
 
Working in collaboration with UofI Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) and EMSI Burning Glass, this internship will utilize labor, workforce, and economic resources and first destination data, to help the University capture job placement data for all graduates. This data will be used to help advance recruitment and retention goals, as well helping advance the university’s strategic goals and campaign to increase access for all Idahoans to higher education, promote experiential education opportunities, and help students discover and pursue meaningful careers.         
 
This internship is approximately 20 hours/week for the spring semester and is paid. The intern selected will also collaborate with EMSI Burning Glass here in Moscow, and weekly hours will be divided between the SEM Office in the Pitman Center, at the EMSI Burning Glass office on N. Almon Street, and/or remotely.

There is also an opportunity to continue this internship during the 22-23 academic school year, contingent upon funding.
 
This position will report to the Director of Career Services. Depending on need and academic department approval, academic credit is also available. In addition, candidates may choose to participate in the professional development Career Services Internship Program

Responsibilities & Internship Learning Outcomes
  • Serve as the campus in-house expert, trainer, coordinator, and distributor of EMSI Analyst data.
  • Work with the Career Advising Team to help incorporate EMSI Analyst data into workshops and presentations and provide information and reports for campus partner inquiries.
  • Assist Director of Career Services and the Career Services’ First Destination Survey (FDS) workgroup with collection, compilation, and distribution of triannual FDS data and reports in Handshake.   
  • Provide research to First Destination Survey (FDS) workgroup to increase our self-knowledge rate in reporting experiential learning and FDS outcomes in Handshake.
  • Worked with AVP for Strategic Enrollment Management and the Admissions team to incorporate EMSI Analyst and FDS data and outcomes into recruitment efforts and campus visits. 
  • Assist Director of Career Services in providing annual outcomes survey data to National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
  • Collaborate strategically with EMSI Burning Glass to provide insight and education into the need for, and how college’s utilize labor market, economic outlook, and job placement data.
  • Work with Career Services and SEM Marketing Coordinators to visually present and measure the effectiveness of external data reports, and further provide optimization suggestions to improve reporting efficiency.
  • Design and implement operational processes to advance and support project goals.
 
Qualifications
  • Current UI student enrolled in degree, certificate, or minor program in Data Science, Statistics/Statistical Science, Business Analytics, Technical Workforce Training, Career & Technical Education, Economics, or related field. Preference given to graduate students in Data or Statistical Science programs. 
  • 1-2 years’ experience in data science or statistical analysis preferred.
  • Understanding of data modeling and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Possess strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences and the ability to synthesize and communicate complex concepts and analyses in easy-to-understand ways.
  • Previous experience in collaborative projects with the ability to work effectively with internal and external partners in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to connect data analysis to higher education needs, in order to impact business performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Knowledge or experience using Python, R, or SQL preferred.
