UI Wheat-Breeding program (Summer Job)


This position is to assist with the wheat breeding program duties at the Parker Farm, which is located approximately 1 mile east of Moscow on the Troy Highway. The position will also assist with greenhouse duties at the Moscow campus greenhouse. Travel is required and is common, but much of the time, work is at the two UI sites (Moscow and Genesee). 
 
The program anticipates hiring up to three (3) individuals.

Job responsibilities

  • Assisting with nurseries: survey and document agronomic features. 
  • Keeping plots clean from weeds also remove off-type plants in plots. 
  • Collecting data. 
  • Assisting with harvest of plots. 
  • Collecting seed in small bags with tags at the small-plot combine, to be loaded in field and trucked back to seed house at Parker Farm to process. After measuring and recording each sample, keeping some selections depending upon objectives applied. 
  • There are single Head-Row type plantings at Parker Farm that require harvesting with a reaper-binder. The head row bundles are threshed in the field with a small threshing machine


Required Qualifications
  • Must have valid drivers license and meet all requirements for driving University vehicles.
