The role: 
Our Urban Mobility Office is recruiting for a public affairs specialist to support our I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement Project! In this role, you will analyze, plan and implement communications plans. You will represent our agency at community and public events, prepare written materials and implement communication distribution plans. Apply today!

This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before two years from date of hire. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. This position has the potential to become permanent.

A day in the life:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive community outreach plans for the Rose Quarter Project.
  • Conduct and manage public involvement and outreach.
  • Prepare written materials, maintain project stakeholder databases and prepare mailings and door-to-door delivery communications.
  • Plan website information architecture and flow, consulting with agency staff to develop policies and procedures for posting, updating and removing material from the agency website.
  • Develop, review, revise and post profiles and content.
  • Manage and staff a community advisory committee, including all tasks related to the formation of the group, meetings and summaries and outreach.
  • Research public opinion to determine the potential for program success, give gathered information to agency management and plan publicity or communication campaigns for agency programs.
  • Develop project newsletters and other public communications materials; serve as an author of reader-friendly summary reports of the planning and environmental studies.
  • Provide media communications materials and coordinate closely with staff, answer questions from media and advise management on how to reply to media inquiries.

What we need:
Five years of experience directly related to the position under recruitment; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.

OR

A bachelor's degree in business or public administration, public relations, marketing, journalism, the behavioral or social sciences or related degree and two years professional level experience in public relations or affairs.

  • Proven experience assisting in the creation of talking points, multimedia presentations, newsletters, public exhibits, display boards, meeting summaries or other public involvement documentation.
  • Understanding of public works transportation project design and construction or tolls and congestion pricing principles, policies and best practices.
  • Experience monitoring and responding to public hotlines and emails accounts.
  • Experience in planning open houses, workshops, public hearings, neighborhood meetings, groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, workshops or other public events.
