Research Trial and Farm Manager

The Research and Technology division at The McGregor Company provides our certified crop advisors and customers with innovative products, strategies and solutions that fit the unique needs of the PNW. It is the premier applied agronomy program in the region and brings high value to our customers and the region’s growers.
 
Job Responsibilities:
• Field Trial Manager - Lead all in field efforts of field trial execution within the footprint of The McGregor Company R&T / Retail footprint in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, and northern Oregon under supervision of the Director of Research. 
o Responsible for physically planting, applying treatments, herbicide applications, and harvesting of research plots
o Coordinate with cooperators
o Ensure plot maintenance for high quality and accurate data
o Supervise and conduct in-field data collection ensuring accuracy, quality, timeliness, and distribution of collected data (soil & tissue sampling, disease screening & testing, drone & in-season imaging)

• Research farm supervisor
o The McGregor Company owns a 300 acre research farm
o Work directly with the farm tenant and McGregor account manager for management suitable to high quality research
o Responsible for farm maintenance in and around plots
o Ensure plot maintenance for high quality and accurate data
o Knowledge of various field chemistries, farming methods, plant diseases, weed identification

• Equipment maintenance, upkeep, repair and fabrication
o Keep all equipment in excellent working condition, striving for trouble-free operation
o Perform routine maintenance of all field and research equipment
o Perform repairs and improvements to equipment and facilities
o Full shop and tools provided
 
Required Skills:
• 2-year related degree preferred or equivalent work experience
• Background in equipment maintenance and mechanical aptitude - required
• Excellent computer skills required for record keeping, experiment execution, and sharing of learnings- required
• Experience in agriculture-based retail, agriculture sales, or production agriculture - preferred
• Field based agricultural research experience - preferred
• Working knowledge and experience with crop protection products - preferred
• Basic GIS skillset is helpful. Our team works closely with the Precision Services Division and GIS topics are relevant
• Works well independently, while ensuring effective team communication
• Ability to learn new tasks, honesty, and integrity
• Ability to travel throughout The McGregor Company’s market area, including overnight stays, within a 5-hour radius of Colfax, WA
• This position is a critical role and will require extra hours outside of office hours during key periods of the year. 
 
Position Details:
• Position is officed and located in Colfax, WA at the Research and Technology office building reporting to the Director of Research, Cat Salois
• Full Time Salary (40 hrs/wk) + overtime during peak seasons (potential for 80+ hrs/wk)
• Valid driver’s license, DOT operator
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs
• Ability to travel within the market area of the inland northwest 20-30% of the time
• State pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain
• Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) or ability to obtain certification
