Marketing and Communications Internship
Summary:
Learn about nonprofit marketing and communications strategies with hands-on experience in all aspects of the ASLC external marketing and communications program. This position will be geared towards the applicant’s strengths (such as graphic design, blog writing, video editing, journalism, social media content creation, etc.), but will offer a large overview of being a part of the ASLC marketing and communications team.
Under the guidance of the Marketing and Communications Team, the Intern will be trained and expected to perform the following duties. Interns must be able to think creatively and strategically while assisting with traditional marketing and communications responsibilities.
Education/Training Requirements:
Applicants must be college graduates or currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a background or coursework in a related field.
Essential Duties:
  1. Assist with writing for publications, external media outlets, social media, collateral, specific marketing campaigns, and website content.
  2. Assist with the creation, production, editing, and distribution of content for ASLC social media. Experience editing social media content on mobile applications is a plus.
  3. Assist in developing plans for seasonal campaigns including graphic designs, social media posts, and advertising.
  4. Collect materials for blogs; develop stories, interview people and create content.
  5. Willingness to take initiative and motivation to seek new storytelling opportunities.
  6. Update and maintain various records and reports with a focus in digital analytics.
  7. Keen attention to detail when proofreading, copyediting, and fact-checking.
  8. Assist with correspondence between the ASLC and donors and/or prospective donors and members.
  9. Represent ASLC within the community through outreach, event promotion, and other misc. opportunities.
  10. Assist periodically with sales and guest services functions, including special events/facility rentals, group tours, and support with community interface.
  11. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting a positive attitude, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
  12. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Candidates who are selected to interview will be asked to provide a portfolio of their work before the interview. (video, photography, writing sample, social media content, or a combination of all)
 
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to speak effectively and to be comfortable meeting new people when interfacing with guests. Ability to work independently with excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be PC literate with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint experience. Knowledge of InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite is helpful. Photography and Videography skills are a plus.

Unpaid Internship: Housing Available / Reduced meal per diem of $100 per week is available for 12 weeks
