Nutrition Science Internship

The Own Brands Technical Services Department has an opening for a Nutrition Intern. This position is located in Pleasanton, California.
 
Position Purpose
As part of the Technical Services team, the Nutrition Intern will be responsible supporting nutrition science strategies for the Albertsons Own Brands business. Support the transformation of the product portfolio to deliver against Own Brands Technical Services team’s nutrition agenda including the Health & Nutrition business initiatives. This role will allow student to engage with industry professionals and gain hands-on work experience at one of the largest food retailers.
 
Key Responsibilities include:
• Student will work on a defined project on a full-time basis over the Summer (June-August).
• Internship will include exposure to business activities, engage 1:1 with technical services team members (including regulatory affairs and product development), and end with a final share-out presentation of completed projects.
• Student will have the opportunity to work on a project designed to fit their skills and interests and meet the business needs of Own Brands. Potential projects include:
• Conduct review of the scientific literature around a specific nutrition topic and identify opportunities to effectively translate science to product applications
• Review ingredient and formula labeling to support product labeling regulations
• Review portfolio against nutrition/labeling regulations
• Develop nutrition education materials (e.g. infographic, training webinar) for internal stakeholders
 
Qualifications:
  • Current student (Undergraduate or Masters) in Nutrition or related field; within one year from expected graduation date
  • Interest in application of nutrition science for use in supporting the benefits of food products and implementing food policies
  • Prior food or consumer packaged goods nutrition science, or nutrition labeling experience is desired
  • Formal course work or seminars on Food Regulations, or Nutrition Science is preferred.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects across multiple categories with competing timelines.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of professionalism; self-starter with strong project management skills
  • Detail oriented and excellent computer skills a must; proficiency with Microsoft office suite
