About this role:
We are looking for an Embedded Software Test Engineer Co-Op at our office location in San Francisco, California who has an interest in medical devices and would be excited to work hands on with the hardware and embedded software of our cardiac monitoring device and its supporting infrastructure. In this role, you’ll be able to work closely in a cross-functional environment comprised of talented engineers representing a wide range of engineering disciplines while helping us ensure the quality of our devices through software testing on an embedded system.

Responsibilities include:
- Perform functional, ad-hoc, regression testing on embedded systems software and supporting desktop software applications for manufacturing.
- Collaborate with members of R&D to define and implement testing strategies necessary for devices and their supporting applications and infrastructure.
- Aid in system-level characterization, root-cause investigation, as well as design & development performance testing related to projects and devices.
- Execute written verification protocols and subsequently document and report test results in a manner consistent with both functional and customer requirements.
About you:
- Working towards a bachelor's degree in a technical discipline.
- Experience with electronic test equipment (power supplies, DMMs, oscilloscopes, etc).
- Strong understanding and/or desire to understand QA principles and processes.
- Particularly a desire to learn more about the software QA process in the medical device industry or other regulated environment (e.g., FAA, SEC, DoD, Title 21 CFR part 11), and the related verification, validation, and documentation requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, finding creative solutions as well as enjoying investigative and troubleshooting processes.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in presentation of methods and observations.
Additional desired skills:
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix environment.
- Work experience in a firmware or software development role.
- Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Java, Python, C/C++, and/or .NET/C#
- Understanding of Test-Driven Development and related use of unit testing approaches and tools (e.g., JUnit).
Logistical Requirements:
- This role requires you to be at least 4x / week onsite.
