This R&D co-op, under direction of the Vice President of Research will support research and product development activities to accomplish milestones at Alcyone Therapeutics. The R&D co-op will work in a rapid-paced and multidisciplinary team to apply critical thinking to solve complex problems including:
 
  • Central nervous system drug delivery devices and protocol optimization
  • Advanced pre-clinical/clinical imaging and image post-processing
  • In vitro and computational modeling of the central nervous system
  • Prototyping of mechanical / electromechanical parts using SolidWorks, 3D printing and machining
  • Software programming using MATLAB and other languages
  • Working on an interdisciplinary team with neuroscientists, mechanical engineers, bioengineers, medical doctors, viral vector chemists, and medical device experts
  • Presenting results to the Alcyone team located throughout the USA via zoom

Helpful skill sets for the position:

  • Experience with Matlab or similar programming environment
  • Experience with hands-on fabrication of electromechanical systems (microcontrollers / actuators)
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks, Blender)
  • Expertise in neuroanatomy / physiology / biophysics
  • Expertise in computational fluid dynamics or finite element modeling (ANSYS, COMSOL)
  • Background knowledge of AAV biochemistry
  • Experience with medical imaging (MRI, PET, CT)
  • Research experience with machine learning / AI / automated image segmentation methods
  • Experience with photography methods (image optimization, dewarping, settings)
  • Experience with advanced 3D printing methods
  • Critical analysis of peer-reviewed biomedical literature
  • Expertise with clinical trial design, pre-clinical study design and methods
  • Optical imaging methods for characterization of biological tissues
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Students who are working on degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience (Biology), Chemical and Biological Engineering, or related disciplines.
