Senior Brand and Multimedia Strategist #00190

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is seeking qualified candidates to join the Communications team as a Senior Brand and Multimedia Strategist. 

The Senior Brand and Multimedia Strategist will carry out the objective of supporting the agency's mission by helping protect the lives and property of the Citizens of Virginia through the effective strategic use of multiple communications platforms, educational outreach initiatives, and training of public information officers. 

The Senior Brand and Multimedia Strategist duties include but are not limited to developing, managing, and maintaining the agency's brand; creating and administering multimedia content strategies to include social media posts, internal communications content, and web posts; creating content design materials for outreach campaigns, assist the Communications Director/Deputy with responding to media inquiries. This position will serve as the Chief Storyteller for the agency and Joint Information Center Officer. The incumbent will be required to work with individuals at various levels. 

All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee’s official Employee Work Profile. This position will spend 20% of the work week in the field directly supporting regional staff and programs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Working knowledge of public relations strategy and principles, communication concepts and techniques. 
• Demonstrated ability to write using the Associated Press (AP) Style, write content for and design electronic materials for use on websites and social media, and develop and execute comprehensive and measurable communications plans. 
• Skilled in public speaking, social media strategy and development, relationship building, leadership, organization and problem-solving. 
• Experience with the use of audio/video recording and editing including photography/videography equipment (Sony DSLR Cameras, lighting equipment, lavalier RODE microphones). 
• Ability to research, plan, implement and evaluate public education and outreach programs. 
• Proficiency with graphics programs (Adobe (premiere, Photoshop, and Lightroom), Facebook Meta Business Suite.) and good graphic design concepts. 
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently. 
• Expert in computers and the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint). 
• Ability to communicate effectively with all types of audiences, especially in a crisis, using information technology, websites, and social media. 
• Must be able to manage the State Joint Information Center and serve as the agency spokesperson. 
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts during a State of Emergency/declared disaster and rotate weekly on-call. 
• Must possess a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of sound government branding practices to build and manage trust with constituents.

The salary for this position is negotiable up to the maximum hiring range listed in this posting. Offers will not be made outside of the hiring range.
