Pitchfork Ranch Internship

The Pitchfork Ranch in Meeteetse, Wyoming is offering a summer internship position. This position will be flexible based on the applicants needs as far as start and end dates but we really help at least a week before the Pitchfork Horse Sale May 30th- June 1st.

Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who is comfortable working alone or as part of a small team. The position can be catered to what an individual is looking to learn over the course of the summer and will include cattle stewardship (rotational grazing, doctoring, branding, supplementation, and stockmanship), irrigation, limited haying, fencing, a

nd keeping of ranch records (inventories, financial statements, budgets, etc.).

This will be the fourth year in which our ranch will offer finished fat cattle to the public, so an ideal candidate will have an interest in helping with the marketing process of the beef. This is also the fourth year we will be hosting a horse sale.

This is not a full time cowboying position but the applicant MUST be confident in their riding abilities. The monthly salary is 1,000 dollars and the intern can have a couple outside horses during their time to supplement income or bring a personal horse. We have bought a project horse in the past for several interns to sell at the end of summer and this worked well as a supplement to income, we can discuss this when we hire on. If you have a dog, feel free to bring them as well. We’re pretty flexible!

The applicant will learn about all facets of ranch work, which will include work with the cowboy crew, and will have a well-rounded experience in the operation of a working cattle ranch. A furnished house will be provided and you may have a couple roommates during your time here. We will hire one or two interns for 2025 but please keep in mind this position is extremely competitive, we receive hundreds or applicants. The best time for questions is during the interview process.

For the application send a resume, a cover letter detailing why you would be a good fit for this position and contact information of two professional references to Pitchforkranchbeef@gmail.com by November 22nd 2023. Please put “Internship 2025 application” in the subject line so it’s easy for me to find!

Since being a competent rider is such an important part of this internship we would also like to see a riding video if you have it (don't worry about it being a professional video, we understand this may be a hard ask during winter months. )

We will be collecting all of the resumes and will set up internship interviews via Skype by the 24th of November.
