Tax Compliance and Business License Specialist

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa, that provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are seeking a Tax Compliance and Business License Specialist to join our team in Nairobi, Kenya. This role is responsible for ensuring the company's compliance with state and local tax regulations and business license requirements across all U.S. states and local governments (excluding corporate registrations). The position is critical to maintaining the organization's adherence to tax and regulatory obligations, working closely with the Finance Group to ensure accuracy and timeliness in reporting and filings. This is a remote position, reporting directly to the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage state and local tax registrations and filings (sales, use, property tax, etc.).
  • Monitor and implement updates to state and local tax regulations and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Group to reconcile tax payments and reporting.
  • Maintain a filing calendar to ensure timely submission of tax returns and payments.
  • Oversee registration, renewal, and maintenance of business licenses across U.S. jurisdictions.
  • Track business license renewal deadlines and ensure timely filings.
  • Develop and maintain a record-keeping system for active business licenses and expirations.
  • Prepare compliance reports for the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, identifying risks and deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate records of filings, licenses, and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Serve as point of contact for external advisors, tax authorities, and stakeholders on tax and licensing matters.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in tax compliance or business license registration (corporate or multi-national setting preferred).
  • Knowledge of U.S. state and local tax regulations and licensing (training available for candidates without experience).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
