Summer Intern - Chickpea Trials Coordinator

Title: Summer Intern - Chickpea Trials Coordinator 

Location: Palouse WA  and/or Great Fall MT

Duration: 16 weeks, May to August 


 

Job Summary: 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in agronomy, horticulture, or agricultural science to join our team as a Summer Intern - Chickpea Trials Coordinator. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our research team on local chickpea trials, contributing to the advancement of chickpea breeding and genetics. 


 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain local chickpea trials, including data collection and phenotyping 
  • Observe and manage important trial activities with Contract Researchers including planting, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting 
  • Assist in the setup and execution of production and small plot trials, ensuring accurate record-keeping and data management 
  • Collaborate with research team members to implement and modify trial protocols as needed
  • Develop and maintain detailed records of trial progress, including data analysis and statistical summaries 
  • Assist in the preparation of trial reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders 


 

Requirements: 

  • Familiarity with plant breeding principles and small plot trial design 
  • Experience with data collection and analysis (e.g., Excel, R, SAS) 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 


 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Pursuing or completed Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with chickpeas or other legumes 
  • Familiarity with plant breeding software
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques (e.g., ANOVA, regression) 
  • Knowledge of common chickpea diseases with an ability to identify them in the field.
