Student Athlete Career Development Intern/Co-op

The University of Idaho is seeking qualified candidates to fill one (1) intern or co-op position in the Student-Athlete Support Services department for the ’25-26 school year. This internship is a unique collaboration between University of Idaho Athletics and the Career Services Office.   

Student Athlete Career Development Intern/Co-op responsibilities will include developing, implementing and promoting personal development programming, serving as the staff liaison to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), as well as be the liaison to the University of Idaho Career Services. Working with Career Services, you will:

  • Help advise student-athletes on career development topics such as: resumes, cover letters, interview prep, career exploration. and applying to graduate school.
  • Support and market the Vandal Athletics Career Certificate Program
  • Facilitate career development and educational programming to student athletes via classes, teams, or special workshops
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings with the Career Services team and UofI Athletics Student Support Services team
  • Support Career Services signature campus events (career and job fairs, networking nights, etiquette dinner)

In addition, this position will assist with other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services and staff.  The internship will be housed in the Kibbie Dome Student Support Center, and is for approximately 10 hours/week. Orientation, training, and supervision will be with Career Services.

Required Qualifications

  • Tuition-paying student enrolled part time or full time at UofI
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree required in an appropriate discipline
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A strong self-starter and team-oriented player
  • Excellent organizational skills, and great attention to detail
  • Interest in helping others in career and professional development

Additional/Preferred  Qualifications (but not required)

  • A current student athlete at Idaho, and/or: 
  • A background in athletics or career services
  • Intent to work in the field of student athlete development, career services, counseling, or student affairs

As working in the field of student-athletic services is not limited to a traditional work week, the candidates must be willing to work some nights and weekends.  We are seeking candidates willing to expend extra effort to obtain the full experience possible from the position, which will entail a significant investment of time, training, and energy.

The internship position requires the candidate to be a tuition-paying student (or scholarships/aid towards tuition).  Expected start date is August 25, and this internship will last through the ‘25-’26 school year. Internship hours are not expected during academic or school breaks.
