Engineering Opportunity with Division of Air Pollution Control

Surface Coating & Combustion Section - Permitting 

Annual Salary Range: $48,204 - $72,468

 

Overview:

Looking for a great engineering opportunity working for the Tennessee State government? Interested in protecting our environment, public health, and air quality? The Division of Air Pollution Control has an engineering position in our Nashville Central Office. The selected engineering candidate will work in the Surface Coating & Combustion Section of the Permitting Program and will be responsible for drafting construction and operating permits for sources of air pollution, database entry, and initiating enforcement action against sources that fail to comply with air pollution control regulations. 

The preferred candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (chemical engineering preferred) and a general understanding of federal and state regulations. The position requires a valid driver’s license and may require overnight travel. Candidates must meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this position.  Highlighted Responsibilities: 

  • Review stationary source applications for permit applicability.
  • Review applicable federal and state regulations and apply these to draft permits as appropriate.
  • Prepare construction and operating permits for stationary sources of air pollution at industrial entities, private businesses, and state facilities. 
  • Review and evaluate Maximum Achievable Control Technology standards for stationary sources.
  • Help maintain a comprehensive database system.
  • Work cooperatively and effectively with management, other division employees, and the public to help issue accurate and enforceable permits.
  • Meet critical deadlines and do follow-up on assignments with a minimum amount of direction.
