The Department of Ecology is hiring the Regional IT Services Unit Manager (IT System Administration - Manager) within the Information Technology Services Office.
Location Options:
This position can be based at any of the following duty stations:
- Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA.
- Central Region Office in Union Gap, WA.
- Eastern Region Office in Spokane, WA.
- Northwest Region Office in Shoreline, WA.
Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the selected duty station.
Note: If the selected duty station is the Northwest Region Office in Shoreline, the salary will include an additional 5% premium pay due to its location in King County. Salary range: $8,270 - $11,127 monthly.
Schedule:
- This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options.
- A minimum of one day per week is required in the office.
- Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change.

Are you a strategic IT leader who thrives on building strong teams, improving service delivery, and making a difference across the state? The Department of Ecology is looking for a Regional Information Technology Services (RITS) Manager to lead a talented group of IT professionals who support our regional and field offices. This is a unique opportunity to combine your technical expertise and leadership skills in a role that directly supports the mission of protecting, preserving, and enhancing Washington’s environment. You’ll guide statewide initiatives, shape how technology is delivered to regional staff, and ensure dependable, responsive IT services that help drive our environmental work forward.
What you will do:
- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of professional IT staff delivering technology support and services to regional and field offices across the state.
- Direct day-to-day IT operations and ensure timely, effective support for staff in locations including Shoreline, Manchester, Padilla Bay, Vancouver, Bellingham, Yakima, Spokane, and Walla Walla.
- Plan and implement new technology solutions that meet the evolving needs of regional programs and align with agency-wide IT strategies.
- Coordinate with Ecology’s central IT leadership to represent regional IT needs and contribute to statewide planning and decision-making.
- Establish team priorities, set goals, and oversee performance management, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor and liaison to regional program staff, ensuring IT services effectively support their business operations.
- Continuously improve service delivery and identify opportunities for innovation in regional IT support.
Your leadership in this role will ensure Ecology’s regional offices have reliable, high-quality technology tools and support, empowering staff to carry out critical work for Washington’s environment.

Required Qualifications:
Nine (9) years of experience and/or education as described below:

Experience
- Professional Experience in one or more of the following IT disciplines: consultation, systems development, systems analysis, database management, technical support troubleshooting, project management, or server management
- At least one (1) year of recent experience as an IT manager or team supervisor which may be attained concurrently with the listed minimum qualifications
- Education in an Information Technology program or closely related field
Examples of how to qualify:
- 9 years of professional experience.
- 8 years of experience AND 30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter college credits.
- 7 years of experience AND 60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter college credits (Associate’s degree).
- 6 years of experience AND 90-119 semester or 135-179 quarter college credits.
- 5 years of experience AND a Bachelor’s degree.
- 3 years of experience AND a Master’s degree.
- 2 years of experience AND a Ph.D.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Desired Qualifications:
- Professional level experience consulting, designing, programming, maintenance and/or supporting work for moderate or large size organization.
- Experience supervising, leading, mentoring IT professionals in team and individual capacity.
