Purpose: Stewards Individual Placements, a program of Conservation Legacy, provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities. Moores Creek National Battlefield (MOCR) is located in Currie, NC, a rural community about 20 miles northwest of Wilmington, NC. The park consists of about 88 acres and is dedicated to preserving the location of the first decisive patriot victory in the American Revolution. The victory allowed NC to seek out and vote on independence, the first colony to take such action. The MOCR volunteer program is incredibly important to our mission. Without volunteers, our ability to maintain daily operations would be significantly hampered and most if not all our special events would not be possible. The MOCR volunteer program is currently undergoing significant changes. The park now has a dedicated volunteer manager. This position now drives the administrative functions of the program and gives more discretion to supervisors for supervising volunteers. On average MOCR has about 150 volunteers on an annual basis. These volunteers work in visitor services, living history, resource management, and maintenance. This position will work closely with the park's volunteer manager to continue building the volunteer program. They will also work closely with the Moores Creek Battleground Association as they will work to become the park's volunteer outreach arm. This position will also assist with the administration functions of the program including Volunteer.gov. Additionally, the CVA position will assist with the America 250 (A250) events occurring in 2026.
