JLL

Property Management Intern

May 2023 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Beautiful building and great staff. I had the opportunity to speak to a lot of people in a lot of different fields, due to there being several tenants in the building.

What I wish was different

I wished there were more interns besides myself.

Advice

Property management is a great field for people who don’t want to do the same thing everyday. Some days I would be at my desk doing many invoices and other days I’m giving tours and much more!

Consulting Intern

June - August 2022 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Small teams meant that you got to become familiar with the people in your workspace. There were also many opportunities to meet and work with people in other departments.

What I wish was different

More transparency regarding follow up offers or positions opening in the future. More onboarding information before the internship started to offer information on who would be my manager and what exactly to expect.

Advice

Make sure you meet everyone the first couple weeks. This opens up the opportunity to get on more projects as people are more likely to reach out to you if something comes up.

Capital Markets Intern

June - August 2022 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I really liked the people who worked there and the strong sense of drive in each person. The office location was great right in century city and had great food options in the area. Additionally, you get to work as a generalist in both brokerage and debt and equity funding, which allows you to see so may different types of deals, as well as asset classes. They also took quite a few interns, so there was a lot of company during the job.

What I wish was different

I wish the intern culture itself was a little better. Additionally, more structure in the internship would have been helpful.

Advice

I would be prepared to get in the office by 7-7:30am and leave between 6:30-8:30pm. You will work long hours but learn a lot.

Student Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I really liked being a part of a structured intern program that exposed me to various areas of project and construction management. I really enjoyed going to site visits each week and got to see so much of NYC. It was also great to consistently be working on two projects throughout the summer to see the progression and how meetings took place. My supervisors were really supportive and answered all my questions about the field.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more networking events between the interns of the other department. It would have been great to get to know some of the interns in the other areas and also learn about what kind of work they were doing.

Advice

I would encourage other interns to keep an open mind and if you have a question, just ask! My supervisors were super helpful at explains things I did not understand and if I wanted more exposure in other areas of project management, all I had to do was ask!

Change Management Intern

June - August 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

The structure of the internship allowed me to learn the systems and processes necessary for success. I connected with over 30 people at JLL, building my professional network while simultaneously learning about the field of Change Management.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have stayed with them longer. Because JLL is a large company, their structured 10-week internship program didn't allow me to do extra work after the internship wrapped up.

Advice

Ask questions, connect with as many people as possible, and take notes!! You'd be surprised how many people want to help you and how much they appreciate your perspective.

Project Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

The people were awesome! Everyone was super helpful and always willing to answer questions or network. I appreciated receiving advice for my future and how to reach my career goals. JLL has a wide, global reach so the projects are impactful and relevant.

What I wish was different

I wish I sometimes had more work during the day. I thought of other ideas to be helpful later in my internship, but ran out of time to complete some projects. Due to the nature of the work and confidentiality, it sometimes took a long time to receive clearance or access to sites and resources.

Real Estate Brokerage Intern

June 2019 • Miami, FL

What I liked

JLL is the leading commercial real estate company in South Florida. I like that I was able to learn about all business lines in the rotational program. All the brokers went the extra mile to make sure I was getting the proper exposure that I needed to succeed in the industry and get a return offer.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been a week one crash course on how brokers work and the entire timeline of the deal process.

Advice

It was extremely nice to have the opportunity to work with people with different professions. It created a huge increase on mostly my experience but also in my personal network.
